About

The essence of life in the times we live in is forever. Love is boundless, and its state keeps changing. Like the flow & cycle of nature, the journey of art from the artist and vice versa, is eternal.

For me, art has always been a natural process of observing, learning, understanding and expressing. It has felt like a lifestyle. Art and its various forms like literature, crafts, performance & multidisciplinary arts are nothing but a reproduction of what’s internal ,be it thoughts, ideas, opinions, feelings, emotions or dreams. Art makes us unite with the external reality, completing the flow of give and take of energy . As an artist shares, he/she pours his persona into art unknowingly and purely. So the uniqueness of every art piece evolves through both personal emotions & experiences, and the changing traditions of culture & society.

I fell in love with art as a child and have been feeling the same ever since. When in school I would participate in many activities and competitions only to realize there was so much to explore and so many tools and mediums for creating beautiful pieces of art. So I chose to pursue studies in the same field after my 12th,and took up a fine art course at L.S Raheja School of Art at Bandra,Mumbai . The environment of the institution, my fellow artist classmates ,seniors & professors helped me open my mind & heart to learn valuable lessons, not just about art but also life.

Portrait painting, unknowingly became my most enjoyable form of representation. As I would observe & practice the human essence, it would reveal to me not just a visual portraiture but also the history of art. Using charcoal as to make portraits came very intuitively to me. It’s an ancient material to draw with and it’s very very versatile i.e many different techniques and looks can be possible. It’s a very spontaneous and natural process and the depth & texture it creates with rich black tones makes it a very unique sketching medium. Makes my portraits even more emotive and expressive

What amuses me more is the connection of the woman, nature and art. The feminine is a unique and special creature, quite complex and the voice of evolution. I believe that to bring back balance to humanity, it’s important we realize the vast wisdom and intelligence of the divine and feminine i.e not just the women all around the globe but the Mother Nature indeed.

Women, apart from being a symbol of creation and life, are also the spirit of divinity and transformation. The character and essence of a woman is in her silhouette and I don’t mean as an object but as an entity. A lot of art in the history has been unknowingly inspired or intentionally learned through the feminine. The essence of all the elements & visual components of art like form, shape, space, texture, rhythm, balance, composition, value and flow can be observed and are present in the woman.A woman or the feminine in herself contains all the elements & components that makes great art. Art that stays in the times we live in,times forever.

My creation of art is not straight up feminism, neither does the theme talks about the constructs of masculinity and femininity. Infact just like the ocean that playfully shapes the coast, the flower that dances in the wind, the deep innocence in the eyes of an animal, the earth as our nurturing mother, all of my work is an expression of the true, unbound beauty of the divine feminine.

So when I use charcoal to draw portraits, especially those of women’s, I find great comfort and a natural flow while rendering different shades and shapes of the silhouette. Achieving the different shades of black, white and grey can by using the charcoal in various techniques is deeply satisfying as it represents both, the dark and the light within the divine soul and experiences of life, therefore leaving the final look very impressive.

The essence of life that I look for and find within me and in other women can be found while working with this medium.

The vision and the mission through my artworks is to share the story of being a woman not just from my perspective but many other women. The effort is to create more and more work as I feel and experience the essence of life of the wild, divine and feminine, to understand their stories and share it with the masses through my favorite medium of art.
